Privacy statement

Last updated: 27 October 2026

In short: only your email address is required; the rest is optional. We don’t sell your data, this site sets no cookies and you can unsubscribe at any time. Below is exactly what we do, and why.

Who we are

Kept is made by Studio van Dortmont, the sole proprietorship of Dieter van Dortmont in Delft, the Netherlands (Chamber of Commerce no. 42194352). We decide what happens to your data; in legal terms, we are the controller.

Questions about your data? Email hello@dietervandortmont.nl.

What we keep

When you join the list:

  • your email address (required, otherwise we can’t let you know anything);

  • if you fill them in: your first name, your first promise (a choice or your own words) and the finish you like best;

  • whether you’d like to help test, if you tick that box;

  • when you signed up, and which version of the page you saw.

That’s all we ask. Please don’t write anything about your health or other sensitive matters in your own promise: we don’t need it.

If you email us, with a question or a request about your data, we keep your message and your email address so we can reply.

What we use it for

  • To email you about how Kept is coming along, and to let you know first when you can order one (expected in 2027).

  • To address you by your first name, if you gave it.

  • To invite you to test the app or an early prototype, if you ticked that you’d like to help test. Taking part is always voluntary, and we email you first.

  • To learn which promises and finishes people choose, so we can shape the pendant and the app around them. We look at totals, not at individuals.

  • To see which text best explains what Kept does.

We don’t sell your data, we don’t rent it out and we don’t use it to show you ads.

Our legal basis

  • Your sign-up and our emails: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You give it by signing up yourself. You can withdraw it at any time, using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email or by emailing us. Withdrawal applies from then on; it doesn’t change what we did with your consent before.

  • Learning from sign-ups (totals only): our legitimate interest in improving Kept (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object to this.

  • Visitor statistics and keeping the site secure: our legitimate interest in running the website well and safely, and improving it (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We use nothing for this that lets us recognise you. You can object to this at any time.

  • Your emails to us: our legitimate interest in replying to you (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), or our legal obligation when you make a request about your data.

You’re not obliged to give us any data. Without an email address, we just can’t add you to the list.

How long we keep it

For as long as you’re on the list. If you unsubscribe, or ask us to erase your data, we delete it within 30 days. If we stop working on Kept, we delete the whole list.

Emails you send us we keep until your question is dealt with, and at most a year after that.

Totals we’ve counted, such as how many people chose gold, we keep without names or email addresses. If you order a pendant later, we’ll explain at that point how long we keep those details (for tax purposes, for example, that’s seven years).

Who else sees it

Only us, and the companies we use to run the website and our email. They may only use your data on our behalf, and we have an agreement with them about that (a data processing agreement):

  • Framer B.V. (Amsterdam): builds and hosts this website, processes the sign-up form and counts visitors.

  • Google (Google Workspace): our mailbox, which we use to reply to your emails.

If we start using a service to send newsletters, we’ll list it here before we use it. Beyond that we don’t share your data with anyone, unless the law requires us to.

If we later move Kept into a new company, we’ll tell you beforehand and ask whether you want to stay on the list.

Outside Europe

Framer and Google use data centres and subcontractors that may be outside the European Union, for example in the United States. That’s only allowed with extra safeguards, and these are in place: the companies involved are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, or use agreements the European Commission has approved for this (standard contractual clauses). Email us if you’d like to know more.

Cookies and your browser

This website doesn’t set any cookies. No advertising cookies, no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel.

Your own browser does remember a few small things, so the page does what you expect. This stays on your device and isn’t sent to us:

  • the finish you chose (gold, silver or titanium);

  • that you’ve signed up, with your first name, so the form recognises you when you come back. Your email address isn’t stored here. ‘Sign up someone else’ or ‘Change my details’ clears it. It disappears by itself after six months;

  • while your tab is open: the promise you clicked (to fill in the form for you) and which version of the text you see.

You can clear this at any time in your browser settings (clear website data).

Visitor statistics

Like any website, the server (Framer’s) receives your IP address, to send you the pages and protect the site against abuse. Framer also counts for us how many people visit, which pages they view, where they came from (a search engine or an ad, for example) and how often the sign-up form is sent. This happens without cookies. Your IP address and browser details are scrambled with a key that is thrown away every day. After that you can’t be recognised, and nobody follows you across days or websites. While the site is on a framer.app address, Framer also loads its own scripts for its edit button and error reports.

If we ever want to use cookies or tracking that need your consent, for example to measure ads, we’ll ask you first and update this statement.

Security

The site only works over a secure connection (https). Only we can see the sign-ups, plus Framer and Google where their service requires it. If something does go wrong with your data (a data breach), we report it to the Dutch Data Protection Authority within 72 hours where required, and let you know if it affects you.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • see which data we hold about you;

  • have it corrected or completed;

  • have it erased;

  • have its use restricted;

  • object to its use based on our legitimate interest;

  • receive your data in a common file format, to take it elsewhere;

  • withdraw your consent.

To do so, email hello@dietervandortmont.nl. We’ll respond within one month. Sometimes we’ll first ask you to show it’s really you, for example by emailing from the address you signed up with.

No automated decisions

We don’t make decisions about you by computer alone, and we don’t build a profile of you.

From 16

You must be 16 or older to sign up.

A complaint?

Not happy with how we handle your data? Let us know first and we’ll look for a solution together. You can also always file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens), or with the data protection authority in the country where you live.

The app

The Kept app isn’t available yet. When it is, we’ll explain here what the app does with your data too.

Changes

If anything changes in how we handle your data, we’ll update this statement and put the new date at the top. For a big change, we’ll email you first.
